March is Women’s History Month, and what better way to celebrate than by spotlighting some incredible women from right here in South Jersey? Whether they fought for women’s rights, dominated in sports, or made waves in entertainment, these women have made a serious impact.
If you’re new to the area (or just want to brush up on your local history), here are some badass South Jersey women you should know about:
Alice Paul (Mount Laurel) – The OG Feminist Icon

Ever voted in an election? You can thank Alice Paul for that. Born in Mount Laurel, she was a key leader in the women’s suffrage movement and played a huge role in getting the 19th Amendment passed, giving women the right to vote. But she didn’t stop there—she also drafted the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which is still being fought for today. If you want to see where this trailblazer grew up, check out the Alice Paul Institute in her hometown!
Jill Biden (Hammonton) – First Lady with South Jersey Roots

Yep, Dr. Jill Biden—the First Lady of the United States—was born in Hammonton, aka the “Blueberry Capital of the World.” While she spent most of her life in Delaware, her South Jersey roots run deep. She’s an educator, advocate for community colleges, and overall powerhouse. And honestly, we love a First Lady who keeps her day job as a professor.
Carli Lloyd (Delran) – Soccer Legend & Jersey Girl

Even if you’re not a huge soccer fan, you’ve probably heard of Carli Lloyd. This Delran native is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a World Cup champion, basically making her one of the greatest U.S. women’s soccer players ever. Her work ethic and dedication are legendary—she literally practiced in her backyard every day growing up. If that’s not motivation, I don’t know what is!
Tasha Smith (Camden) – From South Jersey to Hollywood

Born in Camden, Tasha Smith is an actress, director, and producer who’s made a name for herself in Hollywood. You might recognize her from movies like Why Did I Get Married? or her role in Empire. But beyond acting, she’s also a mentor for up-and-coming actors, proving that success doesn’t just mean making it big—it’s also about lifting others up.
